Terms of Service
Last updated 31 August 2026. This is a plain-English statement of the terms on which Dataface is provided. It is not legal advice.
1. What Dataface is
Dataface is an early-warning intelligence tool for authorised financial-services professionals. It presents information drawn from publicly available sources — including Companies House, The Gazette and the Financial Conduct Authority register — for review.
2. Publicly available sources, retrieved live — the registers stay the record
Everything shown about a company or person comes from publicly available official records — Companies House, The Gazette and the Financial Conduct Authority’s Financial Services Register. Dataface holds no information about any person or company beyond what those official sources have published, together with the account and usage records described in section 5.
To make retrieval fast, Dataface keeps a local, regularly refreshed copy of parts of these public records — an index and cache, the way a search engine works — and fetches the rest live when you open a page. Current facts, such as a company’s status or a firm’s authorisation, reflect the source as at the time shown on the page, and you can request an on-demand refresh at any time. Where the site shows history — for example, what the register showed at an earlier date — it is presented as a dated observation of the public record at that time.
The official registers remain the systems of record. Corrections happen at the source: when a record is corrected or removed at the register that publishes it, Dataface reflects the source on its next refresh. Older personal-insolvency records are aged off display in line with standard credit-industry practice, even where the official record remains published.
3. Verify everything at the source
Dataface is a signposting and review tool, not a system of record. All figures and facts must be double-checked against their original source before you rely on or act on them. Do not use the information as the sole basis for any decision.
4. Factual, not an adjudication
Dataface presents factual public records for your review. It does not adjudicate, score, or make allegations about any person or company. A company’s status — for example administration, liquidation or dissolution — is stated as a fact from the public record, never as a judgement.
5. Access & usage records
Access is currently limited to approved business email domains. By requesting a sign-in link and signing in, you confirm you are authorised to use the service and you accept these terms. For security and to improve the service, we keep a record of sign-ins and of the pages each signed-in user views. Sign-in and page-view records are kept for up to 12 months and then deleted. Visits to public pages may be logged (including IP address) for security, and such logs are kept for up to 90 days.
6. Personal data
Dataface displays personal data — for example directors’ appointment histories and insolvency notices — drawn from the official public registers, relying on legitimate interests under UK data-protection law. How and why, the safeguards applied, and your rights (including the right to object) are set out in our privacy notice. If a record about you is wrong, correct it at the register that publishes it and Dataface will follow the source; if Dataface shows something the source does not say, contact us and we will check it.
7. No liability
The service is provided free of charge, “as is”, with no warranty as to accuracy, completeness or fitness for any purpose. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Dataface accepts no liability for any loss or damage arising from use of, or reliance on, the information provided. Always verify at the source.
8. Acceptable use
Use the service only for legitimate professional purposes. Do not scrape, resell, or use the information to harass any individual or to make decisions that unlawfully affect any person.
9. Changes
We may update these terms from time to time; continued use after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated terms.
